Lorna Kay Ward

Lorna Ward (Hammond) age 71 of Apple Valley, Ca passed away Monday January 5th, 2026. Lorna was born to Lloyd and Loraine Hammond of Rialto, CA. May 28th, 1954. Five years later Lorna's little sister, Linda was born and completed the family. As a young girl Lorna competed in and won Little Miss Rialto. Lorna loved spending time with her family, driving cross country to spend the summer visiting family in Michigan. She graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1972. One of Lorna's favorite places to work was the Mission Inn in Riverside CA., creating a life long love she shared with her whole family. Many great memories were later made there at birthday celebrations and holiday meals. Lorna's only child Michelle was born in 1975. In 1980 Lorna met Dave Ward, later marrying in 1983 in Lake Tahoe, CA. As adults Lorna and Linda became best friends and went on many adventures to Palm Springs, Las Vegas and Michigan. She participated in nostalgia racing with her husband. Lorna started working as the Team Coordinator for the Big Red Camaro going to places like Bonneville Salt Flats, Pikes Peak, Silver State Classic and miscellaneous others. Lorna supported the team making any and all reservations from flights, meals, hotels and feeding the team. Lorna had three very important "little people" in her life. Lorna's nephew Cole was born in 1998. Lorna could sit, hold and play with Cole for hours when he was a baby. As he got a little older "Aunty Duh" would plan sleepovers with licorice and camp outs by the fireplace. Her first granddaughter Taylor was born in 2002. Lorna fell in love with Taylor the moment she saw her. As a child, Taylor loved to play dress up in GG's dresses and boots. The two of them could spend hours coloring on butcher paper and eating butter noodles. When Taylor was a little older they enjoyed many a Target trip, sushi lunch and thrifting adventures. In 2004, Lorna's second granddaughter Erin was born. Erin and her GG had a special bond. As with Cole and Taylor the sleepovers continued. Sometimes all 3 at the same time. When Erin was in middle school and High School, GG would pick up Erin for school. They loved to sing to the radio every morning together. One of their favorite songs to sing together was "Shower The People" by James Taylor. Lorna never missed her granddaughter's school events when she wasn't traveling with The Big Red race team. Lorna also had a love for Jimmy Buffet. She loved his music, restaurant and even stayed in one of his hotels. Lorna is preceded in death by both her parents Lloyd and Loraine Hammond. Survivors include her husband of 42 years David Ward of Apple Valley, CA. Her Daughter and Son in Law, Michelle and Alex Fleisch of Havre MT, Taylor Fleisch and fiancé Jaxon Stangeland of Brockton MT, and Erin Fleisch of Havre, MT. Sister and Brother in Law Linda and Scott Stewart of Moreno Valley, CA and Cole Stewart of San Diego, CA. Cremation is being done by Affordable Cremation and Burial of Apple Valley, CA. A celebration of life will be held on Jan, 17th 1-4 PM at the Big Red Camaro Shop at 12277 Industrial Blvd, Victorville CA. Attendees are welcome to wear racing attire, Jimmy Buffett beach style attire or anything you feel comfortable wearing. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Lorna's name to the Women's Cancer Foundation.
